Guided open water swim sessions every Tuesday

Tuesday nights at Whitmore Lakes are making a splash — with the launch of Osprey Tuesday, a new open water swimming initiative that’s already drawing comparisons to the hugely popular Parkrun.

Taking place every Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Osprey Lake, the sessions are designed to offer something for everyone — from experienced triathletes to complete beginners looking to gain confidence in open water.

“We wanted to create a space where people could come together and enjoy swimming outdoors in a friendly, relaxed environment — much like the community feel of Parkrun,” said Ian Cartwright, founder of the initiative and a seasoned open water coach. “You don’t have to be fast, and you don’t have to be training for anything. You just have to love the water — or want to learn to.”

The sessions are supported by safety spotters, and swimmers are encouraged to go at their own pace. Wetsuits are available to trial, and swim coaches are on hand each week to offer gentle tips and encouragement.

A Community-Focused Approach

In addition to welcoming swimmers of all levels, the organisers are also calling for local volunteers to help keep the sessions running smoothly — from supporting with registration and safety spotting to signing swimmers in and out.

 Open Water for All

Held in the scenic surroundings of Whitmore Lakes, Osprey Tuesday aims to make open water swimming more accessible and enjoyable for all — whether you’re building up to your first triathlon, looking for a new way to unwind after work, or simply want to experience the joy of swimming outdoors with others.
